Sanitary Sewer Overflow on Whitlock Street in Brunswick – November 7, 2019
The Brunswick Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission, operating under NPDES Permit GA0025313 in accordance with DNR Regulation 391-3-6-05 Emergency Actions, hereby make public notification of a wastewater spill that was reported on 11/7/19 at the corner of Whitlock St. and Old Jesup Rd.

Cause of Spill: Bypass pump malfunction. A clamp connection failed in the storm drain.
Estimated Volume of Discharge: 8,000 Gal.
State Waters Discharged: Brunswick River Basin
Corrective Action Taken: The contractor shut down the bypass and repaired the clamp connection.
Regulatory Compliance: Signs were placed along the immediately affected areas to indicate the presence of a sanitary sewer overflow (SSO). The Environmental Protection Division of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources was notified, along with local authorities and the Glynn County Health Department District Environmental Health Manager.
Immediate Results and Investigation: The contractor has 4 Vac-Trucks on site for clean-up and spreading lime on the effective area. The BGJWSC Lab will be taking samples at the spill site in accordance to the EPD regulations.
