Sanitary Sewer Overflow at Lift Station 4002 in Brunswick – October 5, 2026

The Brunswick-Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission, NPDES Permit GA0025313, in accordance with permit requirements, makes public notice of a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on October 5, 2026, at lift station 4002 (1309 Reynolds Street, Brunswick, Georgia 31520)

Cause of Spill: Description and Cause of the problem: On October 5, 2026, at 3:00 AM, the call center received a phone call reporting water spraying and dispatched a Water Distribution crew as the initial response. Upon investigation, it was determined that the discharge was not potable water but wastewater. The initial report of water spraying drove the response and investigation process before the true source was identified. Lift station 4002 had an ARV failure, causing wastewater to flow into the storm drains and reach waters of the state. Academy Creek is the receiving wastewater plant for this lift station

Estimated Volume of Discharge: 15,827 Gallons

Discharged: Sanitary sewer flowed from the lift station & in the storm drains along Reynolds Street, eventually reaching the East River.

Corrective Action Taken: The lift station ARV has been repaired.

Remarks: JWSC has started spill sampling for a major spill. The upstream location is located at the dock and Mary Ross Waterfront Park and the downstream location is located at the dock and the University of Georgia Marine Extension Service.
