Sanitary Sewer Overflow at Academy Creek in Brunswick – July 11, 2025
The Brunswick-Glynn Joint Water & Sewer Commission, NPDES Permit GA0025313, in accordance with permit requirements, makes public notice of a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred on July 11, 2025 into the Academy Creek.

Location of Spill: 2909 Newcastle Street
Cause of Spill: Heavy rainfall led to significantly increased flows at the plant. The planned capital improvement project underway at the facility has temporarily reduced high flow capacity at the facility to allow for the installation of new equipment.
Estimated Volume of Discharge: 125,776 gallons
State Waters Discharged: Academy Creek
Corrective Action Taken: Staff opened the basin that was offline for the capital improvement project to divert flow until flow receded. Flow was contained in the tank and is being returned to the plant influent for treatment.
